Two Suitcases, One Mission: The Journey to Holguin
Getting supplies to Holguin is never easy, but when we learned in February about a young boy urgently needing colostomy supplies, we knew we had to try. Our closest team was still miles away, and with so few volunteers able to travel to Holguin, the challenge felt immense.
We started by sending a suitcase full of colostomy supplies to Moron, hoping to quickly connect with a traveler heading to Holguin. Unfortunately, that plan fell through when a traveler had to cancel at the last minute, and the suitcase arrived late. Still, we refused to give up.
While searching for a new way to get the supplies to Holguin, we saw an opportunity to help even more people. We packed a second suitcase with essential items—medicines, nutritional supplements, eyeglasses, diapers—so our Holguin team could continue supporting their community.
Weeks passed. We reached out to contacts, brainstormed solutions, and waited for the right moment. In early May, we finally connected with a trustworthy woman willing to transport both suitcases for half her trip fee ($40 CAD). Without hesitation, we booked her help and covered the cost.
By the time the suitcases arrived, the young boy had already received the colostomy supplies he needed from another source. But now, thanks to your support, we have these critical supplies ready for the next emergency.
When the suitcases arrived, our team in Holguin immediately began distributing the supplies:
A 93-year-old bedridden woman, received nutritional supplements, medicines, and diapers—helping her family manage daily challenges with more dignity and comfort.
Another 93-year-old woman received eyeglasses, restoring some independence and connection to her world.
An elderly man with dementia and lung problems received essentials for daily life.
A young woman received eyeglasses and medication, sharing her gratitude with us.
Eyeglasses and medications were distributed to people of all ages, improving quality of life for many.
We don’t always have every detail or photo, but every delivery is a small victory—made possible by the kindness of our supporters, the determination of our volunteers, and the generosity of everyday people willing to help.
Why We Do This
Our mission is rooted in gratitude and friendship. Years ago, our own family received support from Cuban friends during a difficult time. Today, we’re honored to give back—one suitcase at a time.
Thank you for helping us keep hope alive in places that are so often overlooked.
If you’d like to help us reach more families like these, you can donate, volunteer, or simply share our story.
